Mexican teams off to winning starts

TIJUANA, Baja California, September 25, 2009 – Mexican women’s teams of Bibi Candelas-Mayra García and Diana Estrada-Martha Revueltas won their three matches on Friday’s opening day action of the Baja California Beach Volleyball Tournament, the fifth stop of the 2009 NORCECA Circuit.

 

In the men’s side the tandem of Mexican Juan Virgen-Aldo Miramontes, and Canadians Ahren Cadieux-Martin Reader and Daniel Dearing-Chaim Schalk were victorious in their two matches.

 

Candelas-Garcia first defeated Nancy Joseph-Elki Phillip of Trinidad & Tobago 21-6, 21-5 and then downed compatriots Yesica Brambila-Diana Ramirez of Mexico 3 by score of 21-8, 21-16). In their third match they beat the USA Team of Briana Hinga-Laura Ratto 21-9, 21-11.

 

Revuelta-Estrada defeated Costa Ricans Ingrid Morales-Natalia Alfaro 21-15, 21-16 before prevailing in three sets against Ion Canet-Milagros Valle of Cuba 21-23, 21-19, 15-12. In their last match of Friday, they defeated compatriots Alin Acero-Rosalinda Heredia 21-13, 21-4.

 

The duo of Virgen-Miramontes defeated the Mexico 2 team of Lombardo-Ulises Ontiveros 21-10, 21-19 and then beat Yoendry Kindelan-Yunieski Ramirez of Cuba 21-10, 21-18. Cadieux-Reader downed Daniels Williams-Fabian Whitfield of Trinidad & Tobago 21-10, 21-3 and Ivan Mercer-Jason Wight of USA 21-14, 21-14.

Dearing-Schalk defeated Costa Ricans Andres Lopez-Bryan Monge 21-13, 21-16 and then beat the Mexico 3 pair of Ramon Meza-Carlos Ayala 21-18, 18-21, 15-11.
